THE CHABAD ISRAEL CENTER OF LOS ANGELES

The Chabad Israel Center is an organization dedicated to serving the needs of the Los Angeles Hebrew speaking Jewish Community. The Chabad Israel Center provides a variety of programs and services that strengthen Jewish traditions and identity and connect Los Angeles and Israel. They say on their website that the Chabad Israel center “radiates warmth, love of Judaism, joy and strong identification with the Jewish people.” In keeping with these values, the Chabad center has over 24 years of experience providing educational and social services to the LA Jewish community. Chabad provides assistance to many local families and offers a wide range of programs that are discussed below.

Chabad-Lubavitch is one of the most vibrant forces in Jewish life in the world today. Chabad-Lubavitch is an organization that promotes Jewish identity, but it is also much more than that. It is also a philosophy and a powerful and influential movement in Judaism. Chabad is one of the largest branches of Hasidic Judaism and is especially prominent in America and Israel. Chabad is an acronym in Hebrew that incorporates the three intellectual faculties of chachmah, bina and da’at. These mean wisdom, comprehension and knowledge, respectively. Chabad encourages humans to allow knowledge, comprehension and wisdom to go into their heart and govern all of their actions on earth. Lubavitch, means the city of brotherly love and was the name of a town in Russia that was the movement’s center for well over 100 years. The philosophy encourages this spirit of love, respect and community.

Chabad began in Russia over 250 years ago and quickly spread across the land. Eventually the branch of Judaism expanded to all corners of the earth and has been providing religious and emotional solace to people the world over.

One of the main aspects of the Chabad movement is the Chabad houses that are set up around the globe. They are Hasidic community centers that provide support and services to Jewish communities. One does not have to be Hasidic to enter into these programs and many Jews feel valued, respected and welcomed in the Chabad house. This is only natural since these feelings are at the heart of Chabad. You can check out the local LA Chabad house at UCLA in Westwood or you can drop in at the Chabad Israel Center LA offices at 1520 S. Robertson Blvd.

Motivated by love of Jews and Jewish faith and traditions, the Chabad-Lubavitch movement today touches thousands of lives and has many centers dedicated to supporting families and individuals with warmth love and understanding.
