CANTER’S DELI

Canter’s Deli is an LA Institution that has been serving up plates of Jewish comfort food for years. Canter’s Deli is an eclectic mix of old-time nostalgia and the current Los Angeles scene. Tourists, movie stars, club kids, and locals all pile into this historic eatery that’s open 24-7 and always a treat for people watching

Canter’s Deli is located “in the heart of Los Angeles” on Fairfax, close to the Grove, Beverly Center, Hollywood and the Westside. I even know people who haul in from the valley just to get some of this tasty fare.

Since opening in 1931, Canter’s has sold over 20 million bagels, 10 million matzo balls, 9 million pounds of corned beef and 24 million bowls of Chicken Soup. That is impressive, to say the least.

The eatery has an easy charm about it, and the service, while a little gruff at times, is normally fast and reliable. Canter’s offers breakfast, lunch and dinner items any time of the day. Their menu is quite large and almost everything is delicious. Of course, the real draws are the Deli staples, with Corned Beef piled high on rye bread being my particular favorite.

Canter’s also has a full service bakery on the premises that serves up everything from black and white cookies to freshly baked bread. They also have a catering menu that can feed you and your friends whether you are working or playing around town. Canter’s Deli attracted names such as Marylin Monroe and Elvis and after you eat there and experience the charms of this LA landmark, you’ll be hooked.

The Kibitz Room is located next to the dining room and offers a full bar and a stage where musicians get up and jam in front of this LA hang out. The crowds are cool and the music is swinging. Pretty much every night is guaranteed to be a fun time for the performers and the audience. The Kibitz room is open from 10:00AM to 1:40 AM everyday.
